FEARLESS 2011 13 February Llandegla Forest
Two NSW members are obviously taking the 2011 racing season seriously. Mark Musgrove and JJ Buchma recently took part in the ‘Fearless 2011’ duathlon held at the Llandegla Forest, North Wales. The event was not mis-named as the competitors had to battle with extreme cold, freezing rain and a most demanding course. The competition consisted of three parts. A 6.5km run, 18km mountain bike event and, finally, another run 4km. Not an event for the unfit or faint-hearted.
Many entrants failed to complete the event, falling by the wayside at various points, but our two lads showed that they had both fitness and stamina. Mark finished in overall 34th place (13th in his age category) and JJ came home in 120th place (23rd in his age category). Mark says that, despite the atrocious weather conditions there was a great atmosphere at the event and he is keen to have another ‘go’ next year. He recommends the event to other NSW members, especially those with masochistic tendencies!
